The dams have to go. I get it - hydro power, whatever. Doesn't matter. The water has to flow. Salmon have to swim, plants have to drink. The earth can heal, but the circulatory system can't be clogged up to do that. Imagine living a healthy life with blocked arteries. It's just not worth our modern lifestyle if it means this toxicity.

Comprehensive as usual, Julian. What leaps out from your necessary actions is this: "partnership between government, NGOs, scientists, community and the private sector": which as you know I have in my "never happen" list. Alas.

Thank you, Julian, for sharing this resource on world rivers. I was surprised when our local Mississippi River turned up as number 7 on the list of the "Dirty Dozen.": https://worldsrivers.appspot.com/

The Father of Waters has lots of fertilisers, pesticides and sediment in it, mostly due to agriculture in the catchment. This is responsible for the world's largest ocean dead zone, at the mouth. https://fmr.org/dead-zone-how-midwest-kills-marine-life-gulf-mexico
